Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Ensure boots are laced snugly but not uncomfortably tight. Start from the bottom eyelets and work your way up, pulling evenly to distribute pressure. A secure fit is crucial for maximizing the benefits of the boot's responsiveness and stability.
- Initial Wear: It's recommended to wear the boots for short periods during practice sessions before a full game. This allows the materials, especially the Flyknit and Atomknit, to mold to your foot shape for optimal comfort and fit.
Compatibility
- Surface: These boots are designed exclusively for firm ground (FG) surfaces. This includes natural grass pitches that are dry and firm. Using them on artificial grass (AG), soft ground (SG), or indoor surfaces can damage the studs, affect performance, and may void warranty.
- Fit: The Mercurial line is known for a snug, performance-oriented fit. Consider trying them on with the type of football socks you typically wear to ensure the best fit.
Care Instructions
To ensure the longevity and performance of your Nike Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor XVI Elite FG boots, follow these care steps:
- Clean After Every Use: Immediately after playing, knock off any loose dirt and mud. Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) or damp cloth to gently clean the upper, especially the Gripknit areas, and the soleplate.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use strong detergents, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the synthetic materials, adhesives, and coatings.
- Rinse Thoroughly (If Needed): If very muddy, a light rinse under cold water is acceptable, but avoid submerging the entire boot.
- Air Dry: Stuff the boots with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture and help them retain their shape. Allow them to air dry at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat sources (like radiators), which can cause materials to crack or stiffen.
- Proper Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place. Using a boot bag can protect them from scuffs and dust, but ensure they are completely dry before bagging to prevent mildew.
- Inspect Regularly: Periodically check studs for wear or damage and the upper for any signs of tearing or separation. Early detection can prevent further issues.
