Setup, Compatibility & Care
Understanding how to properly set up, ensure compatibility, and care for your Nike Mercurial Vapor 16 Elite FG boots will maximize their lifespan and performance.
Setup & First Use
- Lacing: Ensure laces are securely tied, providing a snug yet comfortable fit. The Flyknit upper is designed to adapt to your foot, offering a sock-like feel.
- Break-in Period: While designed for immediate comfort, a short break-in period may be beneficial to fully mold the boots to your foot shape. Wear them during light training sessions before competitive matches.
- Socks: Wear your preferred football socks. The cushioned insole works best with socks that provide additional comfort and prevent slippage.
Compatibility
- Pitch Type: These boots are *exclusively* designed for Firm Ground (FG) surfaces. This means natural grass pitches that are dry or slightly wet.
- Avoid: Using FG boots on Artificial Grass (AG) or Soft Ground (SG) can lead to accelerated wear, damage to the soleplate or studs, and can also compromise your stability and grip, potentially increasing the risk of injury. The specific stud configuration is not suited for these surfaces.
Care & Maintenance
- Remove excess mud and dirt immediately after play using a soft brush or cloth.
- Wipe the upper with a damp cloth and mild soap if necessary. Pay attention to the Gripknit area to keep its texture effective.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water, ensuring no soap residue remains.
- *Do not* machine wash or tumble dry.
- Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature.
- Avoid direct sunlight or artificial heat sources (like radiators or hair dryers) as this can damage materials, especially the Gripknit and soleplate.
- Stuff boots with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape. Change the newspaper regularly until dry.
- Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Consider using a boot bag for transport to protect them from scratches and dirt.
- Stud Inspection: Regularly check the studs for wear or damage. While the Pebax soleplate is durable, aggressive play or use on incompatible surfaces can cause wear.
