Setup and Initial Fit
Before your first use, always try on the boots with the football socks you typically wear to ensure a snug yet comfortable fit. The Mercurial Vapor XVI Elite is designed for a very close feel. Lace them securely but avoid over-tightening, which can cause discomfort. A short break-in period, ideally during lighter training sessions rather than a full match, will allow the Flyknit and Atomknit upper to mold to the unique contours of your feet, enhancing comfort and fit over time. Listen to your body and gradually increase wear time.
Compatibility
These boots are engineered exclusively for Firm Ground (FG) surfaces. This means they are optimized for natural grass pitches that are firm and relatively dry. Using them on artificial grass (AG), soft ground (SG), or indoor surfaces is not recommended. Using FG studs on AG can lead to excessive wear on the soleplate and studs, compromise your grip, and potentially increase the risk of injury. On soft ground, the FG studs may not penetrate sufficiently, reducing stability and traction.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your boots:
- Clean After Every Use: Gently tap off any excess dirt, mud, and grass after each session. For the upper, use a damp cloth and, if necessary, a small amount of mild soap to wipe away grime. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the Gripknit material.
- Soleplate Cleaning: Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to carefully remove mud and debris from between the studs on the soleplate.
- Drying: Allow the boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Never place them near direct heat sources like radiators or in direct sunlight, as this can cause the materials to crack, shrink, or degrade. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
- Storage: Store your clean, dry boots in a cool, dry place, ideally in a boot bag to protect them from dust and damage. Avoid storing them in damp or humid environments.
