Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Ensure boots are laced securely but not overly tight. Start from the bottom eyelets and work your way up, pulling evenly to achieve a snug, comfortable fit around your foot. Experiment with different lacing patterns if you feel pressure points.
- Break-in Period: Like most high-performance football boots, the Mercurial Vapor XVI Elite FG may benefit from a short break-in period. Wear them for light training sessions or casual use before competitive matches to allow the materials to mold to your foot.
Compatibility
- Surface: These boots are exclusively designed for Firm Ground (FG) football pitches. This refers to natural grass fields that are generally dry and offer good resistance. Using them on artificial grass (AG), soft ground (SG), or indoor surfaces is not recommended as it can compromise performance, damage the boots, and potentially void any warranty.
- Foot Type: The minimalist and thin upper is designed for a close, sock-like fit. While adaptable, players with very wide feet might find them snug initially.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care extends the life and maintains the performance of your boots:
- Cleaning After Use: Immediately after each use, remove loose dirt and debris using a soft brush or cloth. Wipe down the upper with a damp cloth.
- Stubborn Dirt: For more stubborn dirt, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush (like a toothbrush) on the studs and soleplate. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasive materials.
- Drying: Allow the boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, direct sunlight, tumble dryers) as this can damage the materials and adhesives.
- Odor Control: If odors develop, remove insoles and air them out. You can also use odor-absorbing packets or sprinkle a small amount of baking soda inside (ensure it's completely dry before next use).
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consider using a boot bag for protection during transport.
