Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup & Breaking In
- Try On: Wear your usual football socks when trying on the boots to ensure the best fit. The `Mercurial Vapor` is designed for a snug, performance fit.
- Lacing: Experiment with lacing techniques to find the most secure yet comfortable fit for your foot. Ensure the laces are tight enough to prevent foot slippage but not so tight they restrict circulation.
- Break-in Period: Due to the lightweight and form-fitting upper, these boots will benefit from a break-in period. Wear them for short training sessions or light activities initially to allow the materials to mold to your foot. This can help prevent discomfort during your first full game.
Compatibility
- Playing Surface: The `FG` (Firm Ground) soleplate is specifically designed for use on natural grass pitches that are firm and relatively dry. Do not use these boots on artificial turf (AG) or very soft, muddy pitches, as this can damage the soleplate and compromise your grip, potentially leading to injury.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, remove loose dirt and mud from the soleplate and upper. Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) for studs and crevices. For the upper, gently wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as these can damage the `Gripknit` material and other components.
- Drying: Allow your boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, direct sunlight, tumble dryers) as this can cause the materials to crack, shrink, or deform. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consider using a boot bag to protect them from dust and scratches.
