Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Begin by fully loosening the laces. Insert your foot, ensuring your heel is comfortably seated at the back of the boot. Pull the laces firmly, starting from the toes, working your way up through the hook eyelets. Use a double knot to secure the laces, preventing them from coming undone during your activity.
- Break-in: Like most robust hiking boots, a short break-in period is recommended. Wear the boots for shorter walks around your home or local park before embarking on a long hike. This allows the boots to conform to your feet and reduces the risk of discomfort.
Compatibility
These Karrimor Skiddaw boots are designed for a wide range of outdoor activities, including:
- Day hiking
- Backpacking (light to moderate loads)
- Walking on varied terrains (forest trails, rocky paths, muddy tracks)
- General outdoor adventures in wet or dry conditions.
They pair well with technical hiking socks that wick moisture away from your feet, enhancing the breathability of the Weathertite upper.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially if dirty, wipe clean with a damp cloth. For stubborn mud, a soft brush can be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing that could damage the waterproof membrane.
- Drying: Always air dry your boots naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles and loosen laces to allow air circulation. Avoid machine washing and direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, fireplaces, direct sunlight) as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight when not in use. You can stuff them with newspaper to help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: Over time, the outer DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating may wear off. If water starts to soak into the outer fabric rather than bead off, re-apply a suitable DWR treatment spray for synthetic and leather footwear to maintain optimal water repellency.
