Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Before your first use, ensure the laces are threaded correctly through all hook eyelets. When putting on the boots, push your heel back into the boot, then pull the laces snugly from the toes upwards, securing them tightly around the ankle for maximum support. Avoid over-tightening which can cause discomfort.
- Break-in Period: Like most walking boots, the Skiddaw may require a short break-in period. Wear them around the house or on short, easy walks before tackling longer excursions to allow the materials to conform to your feet.
Compatibility
These boots are suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities, including:
- Day hiking on established trails
- Backpacking on moderate terrain
- General outdoor exploration and walking
They pair well with appropriate hiking socks to wick away moisture and prevent blisters. Consider using gaiters for added protection in very wet or snowy conditions.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your Karrimor Skiddaw Walking Boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially if dirty or muddy, wipe the boots clean with a damp cloth. Remove any debris from the outsole tread.
- Drying: Air dry your boots naturally at room temperature. Avoid machine washing as this can damage the waterproof membrane and materials. Do not place them directly on heat sources like radiators or open fires, as excessive heat can cause materials to crack or delaminate.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Re-proofing (Optional): Over time, the outer durable water repellent (DWR) finish may wear off. You can restore this by applying a suitable footwear re-proofing spray, following the product's instructions. This helps water bead off the surface, maintaining breathability and preventing the outer material from soaking through.
