Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup (Breaking In)
Like many quality hiking boots, the Karrimor Skiddaw may require a brief break-in period. Wear them for shorter walks around your home or on gentle trails before embarking on a long hike. This allows the boots to conform to your feet, preventing discomfort and blisters. Ensure your socks are appropriate for hiking to aid this process.
Lacing
Utilize the hook eyelets to achieve a secure and customized fit. Start by tightening laces from the toes upwards, ensuring a snug fit over the instep but allowing for natural foot flexion. The hooks at the ankle provide an opportunity to lock the heel in place and prevent slippage.
Compatibility
These boots are well-suited for a variety of outdoor activities and terrains:
- Terrain: Ideal for varied surfaces including dirt paths, rocky trails, muddy conditions, and light scree.
- Activities: Perfect for hiking, trekking, long walks, and general outdoor adventures. Their robust design handles both established trails and more challenging off-path explorations.
Care Instructions
Proper care extends the life and maintains the performance of your boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially if dirty or muddy, wipe the boots clean with a damp cloth. Remove any debris from the outsole to maintain traction.
- Drying: Always allow your boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or open fires, as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid Machine Washing: Do not machine wash these boots, as it can compromise the Weathertite membrane and damage the boot's structure.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: Over time, the outer water-repellent treatment may diminish. Consider reapplying a suitable boot-specific waterproofing spray or treatment to maintain the Weathertite's effectiveness, following the product's instructions.
