Setup, Compatibility & Care
Getting the best results from your Johnstone's Washable Matt Emulsion Paint involves proper preparation, application, and ongoing care.
Surface Preparation
- Clean: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, and loose material. Use a mild detergent if necessary, then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
- Fill: Repair any cracks or holes with a suitable filler and sand smooth.
- Prime: For bare, porous, or previously unpainted surfaces, a suitable primer or mist coat (diluted paint) may be required for optimal adhesion and even finish.
Application
- Stir: Open the can and stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use to ensure uniform color and consistency.
- Apply: Use a good quality brush or roller. Apply in thin, even coats. Avoid overloading your brush or roller.
- Coats: Typically, two coats are recommended for optimal coverage and durability. Allow sufficient drying time between coats (refer to the product label for specific times, usually 2-4 hours).
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation by opening windows and doors during application and drying.
Compatibility
- This paint is specifically formulated for interior walls and ceilings.
- It is compatible with most common interior building materials, including plaster, plasterboard, and previously painted surfaces.
Storage & Care
- Tools: Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use with clean water.
- Storage: Store unused paint in its original container, tightly sealed, in a cool, dry place. Protect from frost and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
- Maintenance: For general cleaning of painted surfaces, gently wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or aggressive scrubbing, as these can damage the paint finish over time.
