Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Upon receiving your Salomon Alphacross 5 GTX, ensure you try them on with the type of socks you typically wear for running or hiking. The generous comfy fit is designed for broad appeal, but proper lacing is key to secure your foot and prevent slippage, especially on uneven terrain. Experiment with lacing techniques to find the best hold for your foot shape.
Compatibility
These shoes are primarily designed for trail running and off-road adventures. They are most compatible with:
- Soft, muddy, and loose trails: Where the aggressive lugs can excel.
- Varied terrain: Including forest paths, dirt roads, and grassy areas.
- Wet and damp conditions: Thanks to the Gore-Tex waterproof membrane.
They are less ideally suited for:
- Pure road running: The aggressive tread can feel bulky and wear down faster on asphalt.
- Technical scrambling on dry rock: While offering good grip, their primary focus is soft ground.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your Alphacross 5 GTX shoes:
- Cleaning Mud: After each use on muddy trails, remove loose dirt and mud by rinsing the shoes under lukewarm water. A soft brush can help dislodge stubborn dirt from the lugs.
- Drying: Allow your shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or direct sunlight, as this can damage materials, especially the Gore-Tex membrane and adhesives.
- Waterproofing: Periodically, you may wish to treat the outer fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray specifically designed for footwear with Gore-Tex to maintain water beading properties. This refreshes the outer layer's ability to shed water, supporting the internal membrane.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
