Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Using your Salomon Alphacross 5 GTX shoes is straightforward:
- Lacing: Ensure laces are tied securely but not overly tight. Adjust to your foot shape for optimal comfort and support.
- Sock Choice: Wear appropriate trail running socks, ideally moisture-wicking, to complement the GORE-TEX membrane's breathability and prevent blisters.
Compatibility
These shoes are primarily compatible with:
- Terrain: Soft ground, mud, loose dirt, forest trails, gravel paths.
- Weather: Wet, rainy, and muddy conditions, thanks to the GORE-TEX waterproofing.
- Activities: Trail running, light hiking, off-road walking.
They are less ideal for extended use on hard asphalt or very technical, rocky mountain routes where specialized rock plates or rigid outsoles might be preferred.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your shoes:
- Cleaning After Use: After muddy runs, remove excess dirt and mud by rinsing the shoes under cold running water. A soft brush can help dislodge stubborn mud from the lugs. Avoid hot water, which can damage materials.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not place them near direct heat sources (like radiators or in direct sunlight) as this can damage the GORE-TEX membrane and other materials. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid Washing Machine: Do not machine wash your GORE-TEX shoes, as this can compromise their waterproofing and structural integrity.
- Waterproofing Treatment: Over time, the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating on the outer fabric may wear off. You can restore it using a GORE-TEX specific DWR treatment spray, available from outdoor retailers.
