Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Alphacross 5 GTX shoes are ready to wear right out of the box. Simply lace them up to a snug, comfortable fit. Experiment with different lacing techniques to find what works best for your foot, especially if you experience pressure points or heel slippage. A 'heel lock' lacing method can be effective for preventing movement within the shoe on descents.
Compatibility
These shoes are primarily designed for trail running, offering excellent performance on:
- Muddy and soft trails
- Loose dirt and gravel paths
- Wet and uneven terrain
- Light hiking in challenging conditions
While versatile, their aggressive tread is less optimized for extensive use on paved roads or purely urban environments.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the performance of your shoes:
- Cleaning: After each run, especially in muddy conditions, remove excess dirt and mud with a soft brush (like an old toothbrush) or a damp cloth. If heavily soiled, rinse the shoes under lukewarm running water. You can use a mild soap, but avoid harsh detergents.
- Drying: Allow your shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do NOT place them near direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces, direct sunlight) as this can damage the materials, especially the GORE-TEX membrane and glues. Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Waterproofing: The GORE-TEX membrane provides durable waterproofing. You do not typically need to apply additional waterproofing treatments to the fabric. However, if the outer fabric starts to absorb water rather than bead it up, a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray designed for technical footwear can be applied to restore the water-beading effect and maintain breathability.
