Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Measure: Ensure your curtain rod extends 6-12 inches beyond the window frame on each side and is mounted high enough (typically 4-6 inches above the window frame) for the curtains to just brush the floor or windowsill.
- Unpack: Carefully remove curtains from packaging. Some initial creasing is normal.
- Thread Rod: Slide your curtain rod through the metal rings (eyelets) at the top of each curtain panel. Alternate the direction of the rings so the lead edge faces out when closed.
- Hang: Place the curtain rod back onto its brackets, ensuring it is secure.
- Adjust: Gently adjust the folds of the curtains to create an even, pleasing drape. Allow the curtains to hang for a few days; minor creases should naturally relax.
Compatibility
- Curtain Rods: These ring top curtains require a standard curtain rod. Due to the heavy fabric, ensure your rod is sturdy and securely mounted to support the weight of the panels. Decorative finials on the rod ends will prevent the rings from sliding off.
- Interior Styles: The versatile beige color and luxurious texture complement a wide range of decor styles, including traditional, contemporary, minimalist, and transitional designs.
Care
Proper care will maintain the beauty and longevity of your velvet chenille curtains:
- Dusting: Regularly dust velvet surfaces with a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner or a lint roller to prevent dust accumulation.
- Spot Cleaning: For small spills, gently blot with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, which can damage the pile. For tougher stains, use a mild fabric cleaner specifically designed for velvet, testing on an inconspicuous area first.
- Wrinkles: To remove wrinkles, use a garment steamer on a low setting, holding it a few inches away from the fabric. Avoid direct contact with a hot iron, as it can crush the pile. If ironing is necessary, use the lowest setting, place a pressing cloth over the velvet, and iron on the reverse side.
- Professional Cleaning: For deep cleaning or stubborn marks, professional dry cleaning is highly recommended to preserve the velvet's texture and appearance.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can fade velvet. Consider using sheers or blinds to protect your curtains.
