Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Getting started with your Nike Mercurial Vapor 16 Academy boots is straightforward:
- Lacing: Ensure the lacing system is adjusted to provide a snug, secure fit across your foot without being overly tight. A proper lacing technique helps lock your foot in place, minimizing internal slippage and maximizing comfort and responsiveness.
- Break-in: Like most football boots, these may require a short break-in period. Wear them for a few light training sessions before a competitive match to allow the upper to mold to your foot shape.
Compatibility
These boots feature a MultiGround (FG/MG) soleplate, making them compatible with:
- Firm Ground (FG): Natural grass pitches that are dry or slightly damp.
- Artificial Ground (AG/MG): Modern artificial turf surfaces.
Avoid using FG/MG boots on extremely soft, wet, or muddy natural grass pitches, as this can lead to inadequate traction and potential damage to the studs or soleplate.
Care
Proper care extends the lifespan and maintains the performance of your boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, remove loose dirt and grass clippings. Use a damp cloth and mild soap to gently clean the upper. For the soleplate, use a brush to remove mud from between the studs.
- Drying: Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight or artificial heat sources (like radiators or hair dryers), as these can damage the materials.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry place away from extreme temperatures. Consider using boot trees or stuffing them with newspaper to help maintain their shape.
- Inspection: Regularly check for any signs of wear and tear, such as loose stitching or damaged studs, to address them promptly.
