Setup, Compatibility & Care
Preparation is key: Before application, thoroughly remove all decayed wood, paint, varnish, dirt, and loose material from the repair area, extending 1-2 inches around it. For deep holes (over 1 inch), consider inserting screws with heads and stems exposed for better filler anchorage. If the wood is wet, allow it to dry completely. For best results, pre-treat the repair area with an appropriate Cuprinol wood preserver and let it dry.
Mixing: Mix only the amount of filler you can use within 10 minutes. On a hard surface, combine a golf ball-sized amount of filler with a 1.5-inch thread of catalyst paste. Mix thoroughly until uniform in colour and no streaks remain. Be cautious: too much catalyst can cause the filler to become very hot and dry too quickly.
Application: Apply a thin first coat, pressing firmly for good adhesion. Fill the remainder of the hole slightly proud. Allow to set hard (approx. 30 minutes).
Finishing: Once set, smooth the filler using sandpaper or a file. The repair is ready to be painted or stained. Test your chosen finish on a small area first to ensure satisfaction.
Tool Cleaning: Remove as much product as possible from application tools before cleaning with brush cleaner.
Compatibility: The filler accepts paints and woodstains, including Cuprinol and Dulux Trade Woodstains. Ensure compatibility with specific finishes by testing first.
Care: Store the filler in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
