Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Putting on and taking off your Osprey Origin Wetsuit is designed to be straightforward thanks to its super stretch collar and YKK back zip. Here’s a quick guide:
- Preparation: Ensure the wetsuit is dry before putting it on. A plastic bag over your feet can help them slide through the leg openings easier.
- Legs First: Gather the wetsuit legs and pull them up over your feet and then your legs, ensuring the knee pads are correctly positioned over your knees.
- Torso & Arms: Pull the wetsuit up over your waist and then insert one arm at a time. The 2mm neoprene under the arms should allow for smooth entry.
- Zip Up: Reach for the leash attached to the YKK back zip and pull it firmly upwards until the wetsuit is fully closed.
- Taking Off: Reverse the process. Unzip fully, peel the wetsuit down from your shoulders, then arms, and finally legs.
Compatibility
This wetsuit is specifically designed for surf girls at a beginner to intermediate skill level. The current variant is a kids' full-length wetsuit suitable for ages approximately 5-6 years old. It's compatible with various temperate water sports where warmth and flexibility are key, such as surfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, and kayaking.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your wetsuit:
- Rinse Thoroughly: After every use, rinse your wetsuit inside and out with cool, fresh water. This removes salt, sand, and chlorine that can degrade the neoprene.
- Avoid Hot Water: Never use hot water, as it can damage the neoprene and seams.
- Mild Soap Only: If cleaning is needed, use a wetsuit-specific shampoo or a very mild, non-detergent soap. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- Air Dry: Hang your wetsuit to dry on a wide plastic hanger (not wire, as it can crease the neoprene) in the shade, away from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause neoprene to break down and fade.
- Storage: Store the wetsuit flat or gently folded at the waist, or on a wide hanger to prevent creasing. Avoid storing it compressed for long periods.
