Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors or directly outdoors from March to May. Ensure seeds are planted at the correct depth in well-draining soil. For best results, start seeds indoors about 4-6 weeks before the last frost and transplant them into the garden once the risk of frost has passed.
Environment: This variety performs well in patios, small gardens, and raised beds. It requires a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Plants reach approximately 450 mm in height and benefit from adequate spacing to ensure good air circulation.
Care: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, to encourage healthy head development. Mulching can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Protect young plants from pests. The plants are hardy to H4, suggesting good cold tolerance once established, but protection may be needed during severe frosts.
Harvesting: Harvest heads when they are firm and well-formed, typically from June to September, depending on sowing time. Cut the main head with a sharp knife, leaving a few leaves attached. Side shoots may develop after the main head is harvested.
