Setup, Compatibility & Care
First-Time Setup
- Adjust the Buckle: Before your first wear, slide your foot into the sandal. Ensure your heel sits comfortably in the heel cup and your toes are not pressing against the front rim. Adjust the metal buckle to achieve a snug, yet comfortable, fit. There should be enough room to slide one finger underneath the strap. The toe thong should feel secure but not restrict circulation.
- Break-in Period: Birkenstocks are designed to mold to your foot over time. Wear them for short periods initially (1-2 hours) and gradually increase wear time over several days. This allows the footbed to soften and conform to your unique foot shape, enhancing comfort.
Compatibility
These sandals are suitable for a wide range of casual activities and everyday wear. They are designed for adults with 'normal arch support' needs. While the adjustable strap helps accommodate various foot widths, individuals with extremely wide or narrow feet might need to assess the fit carefully.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your Birkenstock Gizeh sandals:
- Cleaning the Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Upper: Use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution to gently wipe down the white PVC straps. Avoid harsh cleaners or abrasive sponges that could damage the material or color.
- Cleaning the Suede Leather Footbed: For superficial dirt, allow the footbed to dry completely, then gently brush with a suede brush to lift dirt and restore the nap. For tougher stains, use a specialized suede cleaner and follow the product instructions carefully.
- General Cleaning: For the rubber outsole, a damp cloth can be used to remove dirt.
- Drying: If your sandals get wet, allow them to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight, which can damage the materials and footbed adhesives.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place, away from extreme temperatures. Avoid leaving them in direct sunlight for extended periods, as this can cause the PVC to discolor or warp and the suede to dry out.
- Avoid Submersion: While the PVC is water-resistant, the suede leather footbed is not. Avoid fully submerging your sandals in water to prevent damage to the footbed and adhesives.
