Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure you get the most out of your Birkenstock Boston Clogs, proper setup, understanding compatibility, and consistent care are essential.
Setup
- Adjust the Buckle: Before your first wear, or if the fit feels off, adjust the metal pin buckle. Place your foot fully into the clog. The strap should be snug enough to hold your foot securely without feeling tight or causing pressure points. Ensure there's a slight space around your foot, allowing for natural movement.
- Break-in Period: Birkenstock footbeds are designed to mold to your unique foot shape. This process typically takes a few days to a couple of weeks of intermittent wear. Start by wearing them for a few hours at a time, gradually increasing the duration. The initial stiffness will soften, and the footbed will conform for personalized comfort.
Compatibility
- Unisex Design: The Birkenstock Boston is a unisex style, suitable for both men and women.
- Wardrobe: These clogs pair well with a wide range of casual attire. Think jeans, khakis, linen trousers, skirts, casual dresses, and shorts. They are excellent for everyday wear, including at home, in casual offices, or for weekend activities.
- Foot Type: The anatomically shaped footbed supports most foot types, providing arch support and stability.
Care Instructions
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your Boston Clogs.
- Oiled Nubuck Leather Upper: To clean, gently brush off dirt with a soft brush (like a suede brush). For stains, use a specialized nubuck cleaner or a damp cloth with mild soap, rubbing gently. After cleaning, you may wish to apply a leather conditioner specifically for nubuck or oiled leathers to keep it supple and prevent drying. Allow to air dry naturally, away from direct heat.
- Cork Footbed: The cork is sealed to protect it from moisture. Over time, this sealant can wear down. Inspect the cork periodically; if it looks dry or cracked, apply a thin layer of Birkenstock Cork Sealer. To clean the suede footbed lining, use a soft brush or a slightly damp cloth with mild soap. Allow to air dry.
- EVA Sole: The EVA sole can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
- General Care: Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat (e.g., direct sunlight in a car) as this can dry out and crack the cork or leather. Keep away from excessive water, as this can damage the leather and footbed. If clogs get wet, allow them to air dry slowly.
- Storage: Store your clogs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
