Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Birkenstock Boston clogs arrive ready to wear. The only initial 'setup' involves adjusting the metal pin buckle for a comfortable and secure fit.
- Loosen the strap: If the clog feels too tight, gently pull the strap through the buckle to loosen it.
- Tighten the strap: If the clog feels too loose, push the strap further through the buckle until your foot feels secure but not constricted. There should be a small gap between your foot and the strap when you walk, allowing natural movement.
- Break-in Period: Allow a few days or weeks of gradual wear for the cork-latex footbed to fully mold to the shape of your feet. This process is essential for achieving the personalized comfort Birkenstock is known for.
Compatibility
The Birkenstock Boston is a Unisex design, making it suitable for all adults. Its timeless style ensures compatibility with a wide range of casual and smart-casual attire. It's designed for year-round wear, serving as a comfortable indoor slipper or an outdoor shoe depending on the climate and personal preference.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your Birkenstock Boston clogs, especially the oiled nubuck leather.
- Leather Upper (Oiled Nubuck):
- Cleaning: Gently brush off dry dirt with a soft brush. For stubborn marks, use a specialized nubuck cleaner or a damp cloth with mild soap, then allow to air dry away from direct heat.
- Conditioning: Periodically apply a leather conditioner specifically formulated for oiled nubuck to keep the leather supple and prevent drying or cracking. This also helps maintain its rich appearance.
- Protection: Consider using a water and stain repellent spray suitable for nubuck leather to protect against moisture and spills.
- Cork Footbed: Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat or direct sunlight, which can cause the cork to dry out and crack. If the cork sealant appears worn, apply a thin layer of specialized cork sealer to protect it.
- EVA Sole: Clean the sole with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the material.
- General: Store your clogs in a cool, dry place when not in use. Keep them away from pets, who might be tempted to chew on the natural materials.
