Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Lacing: Before your first use, ensure the asymmetrical laces are snugly tied. This specialized lacing system is designed to contour to your foot and provide a larger striking surface for kicking. Adjust for a secure but comfortable fit.
- Stud Check: The boots come with a mix of removable metal and fixed moulded studs. Before each game or practice, *always* check that the metal studs are securely tightened. Loose studs can affect grip and pose a safety risk. You may need a stud wrench (often sold separately) to do this.
Compatibility
- Pitch Type: These boots are engineered specifically for `soft ground (SG)` pitches. This means wet, muddy, or yielding natural grass surfaces.
- Not Recommended For:
- `Firm Ground (FG)`: Harder natural grass pitches.
- `Artificial Ground (AG)`: Synthetic turf pitches.
- `Hard Ground (HG)`: Very dry, hard natural grass.
Using SG boots on inappropriate surfaces can cause excessive stud pressure, discomfort, premature wear, and even injury.
Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: After every use, especially on muddy pitches, clean your boots.
- Remove excess mud and debris with a soft brush or dull scraper.
- Wipe the synthetic upper with a damp cloth.
- Clean the studs and soleplate thoroughly to maintain grip.
- Do *not* machine wash or tumble dry.
- Drying: Allow boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or sunlight, as this can damage the synthetic materials and adhesives. You can stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Stud Maintenance: Regularly inspect your metal studs for wear and tear. Replace any worn or damaged studs promptly to ensure optimal grip and safety. Keep a spare set of studs handy.
- Storage: Store your boots in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. A boot bag can protect them during transport.
