The North Face Altamesa 500 v2 is designed for adult male trail runners who require reliable stability and weather protection on challenging, uneven terrain. The key benefit is its combination of a rugged, high-traction outsole and a waterproof membrane that keeps feet dry in wet conditions; however, potential users should note that the specialized protective construction may feel slightly heavier than minimalist road-running footwear.

While they can be used on pavement, the Altamesa 500 v2 is specifically engineered for trail terrain; the aggressive outsole will wear down faster on hard, abrasive road surfaces.
Use a soft brush and lukewarm water to remove dirt. Avoid using harsh detergents or a washing machine, as these can damage the waterproof membrane.
The shoes are designed for an adult male foot. If you plan to wear thick, thermal trail socks, you may want to consider a slightly larger size than your standard street shoe.
Yes, the waterproof membrane and protective upper make these an excellent choice for wet or slushy winter trail conditions.
The GTX (Gore-Tex) models include an additional level of specialized waterproofing technology compared to the standard protective design, best suited for extreme wet weather.
Ensure you are using moisture-wicking socks. If condensation occurs, remove the insoles and allow the shoe to air dry in a well-ventilated area.
Check the outsole for packed-in mud or debris. Clean the lugs thoroughly with a stiff-bristled brush to restore the grip profile.
To ensure the best performance from your Altamesa 500 v2, break them in on shorter trail walks before committing to a long-distance run. For compatibility, these shoes fit standard trail running socks; ensure your socks are made of moisture-wicking synthetic or wool blends to complement the waterproof membrane. For care, remove the insoles after wet runs to let them air dry naturally away from direct heat sources, such as radiators, which can degrade the adhesive and membrane integrity. Use a soft brush to remove dried mud after each excursion to maintain the tread grip.
