Product Information

Full details

Designed for adult trail runners who tackle challenging terrain in unpredictable weather, the Altamesa 500 v2 provides robust weather protection and aggressive traction to keep you moving forward. The shoe's standout feature is its integrated GORE-TEX waterproof membrane, which keeps feet dry in rain and muddy conditions, though prospective buyers should note that this added protection can slightly reduce breathability during high-intensity runs in hot, dry environments.

FAQs

Are these shoes suitable for road running?

While they can be used on pavement, the outsole is specifically designed for soft, uneven trail surfaces and may wear down faster on concrete.

Can I use these in the snow?

The waterproof GORE-TEX membrane is excellent for slushy, wet conditions, though always pair with appropriate moisture-wicking socks for best results.

How should I clean the GORE-TEX membrane?

Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. If heavily soiled, use a mild soap recommended for waterproof outdoor gear.

Are these shoes true to size?

Most runners find them true to size, but the added waterproof layers can make them feel slightly more snug than non-GTX models.

Do I need to apply a waterproofing spray?

The integrated GORE-TEX liner does not require topical spray, but you can use a DWR-safe spray on the outer fabric to prevent the surface from 'wetting out'.

Troubleshooting

Waterproofing seems less effective over time

Check the upper for salt buildup from sweat, which can clog the membrane pores; clean with specialized technical footwear cleaner.

Foot slippage inside the shoe on descents

Adjust your lacing pattern using the heel-lock (runner's loop) method to increase tension across the midfoot and ankle.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent waterproofing capabilities for wet conditions
High-traction outsole provides confidence on loose terrain
Durable upper material effectively resists rock and root damage
Stable build quality suited for steep, technical trails

Cons

Waterproof membrane may feel warm in hot weather
Heavier than non-waterproof racing shoes
Limited ventilation compared to standard mesh trainers

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best performance from your Altamesa 500 v2 trainers, verify your sizing to allow for the thicker construction of the waterproof upper. When cleaning, avoid using harsh detergents; simply brush off dried mud with a soft-bristled brush and rinse with lukewarm water. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as high heat can damage the waterproof membrane and the adhesive bonding. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain the integrity of the materials. If the shoes become soaked inside, stuff them with newspaper and allow them to air dry slowly in a well-ventilated area.
