Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Your Birkenstock Boston Sandals are ready to wear right out of the box with minimal setup. The primary adjustment is the single metal buckle strap. Simply unbuckle, slide your foot in, and then re-buckle, adjusting the strap until the fit feels secure but not too tight. You should be able to slide a finger easily under the strap.
Compatibility
These sandals are designed as unisex footwear for adults and are compatible with a wide range of casual and smart-casual outfits. Their closed-toe design offers versatility for year-round wear, providing more warmth than open-toe sandals while maintaining breathability. They are ideal for everyday use, both indoors and outdoors, but are not recommended for strenuous activities or very wet conditions.
Care
Maintaining the quality and longevity of your Birkenstock Boston Sandals involves specific care for the oiled nubuck leather and cork footbed:
- Leather Upper: Regularly wipe the oiled nubuck leather with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust and light dirt. For deeper cleaning or to refresh the oily finish, use a specialized leather brush and a conditioning product formulated for oiled nubuck or pull-up leathers. Apply conditioner sparingly and buff gently. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
- Cork Footbed: Protect the cork from excessive moisture. If the sandals get wet, allow them to air dry naturally away from direct heat. To prevent drying and cracking of the cork, periodically apply a thin layer of cork sealer, especially if the footbed appears dull or dry.
- Footbed Lining: The suede footbed lining can be cleaned gently with a suede brush or a damp cloth (using mild soap if necessary) and then allowed to air dry.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
