Full details

The ASICS Novablast 5 is designed for neutral runners seeking a dynamic and energetic experience on the road. Its standout feature is the FF BLAST MAX foam, which delivers exceptional bounce and a responsive 'trampoline effect' for an energetic stride during daily training and short to medium distance runs. While optimized for a plush, bouncy ride, runners seeking maximum stability for overpronation or extreme off-road grip may prefer other specialized models.

FAQs

What kind of runner is the ASICS Novablast 5 best for?

The ASICS Novablast 5 is ideal for neutral runners seeking a highly cushioned, energetic, and responsive ride for road running, especially for daily training and short to medium distance races.

Can I use the Novablast 5 for trail running?

While the AHAR™ LO Outsole provides good grip on paved roads, the Novablast 5 is specifically designed for road running and may not offer sufficient traction or protection for rugged trail conditions. It's best suited for its intended road use.

What is the heel-to-toe drop of the Novablast 5?

The ASICS Novablast 5 features an 8mm heel-to-toe drop, with a sole height of 21mm at the forefoot and 29mm at the heel.

How should I clean my Novablast 5 shoes?

To clean your Novablast 5 shoes, gently brush off loose dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap and cold water with a soft brush or cloth. Air dry them at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight.

Does the Novablast 5 contain recycled materials?

Yes, the ASICS Novablast 5 incorporates sustainable design with at least 75% of the primary upper materials made from recycled content to help reduce carbon emissions and waste.

Is the Novablast 5 a good shoe for long distances like marathons?

The Novablast 5 excels in short to medium distances (daily training, 5k, 10k, half marathon) due to its responsive and lightweight feel. While some neutral runners may use it for marathons, its primary design focus leans towards spirited, energetic runs over slightly shorter distances. Personal preference for cushioning and support over longer distances varies.

Troubleshooting

Shoe feels too bouncy or unstable.

The Novablast 5 features a 'trampoline-inspired' design and FF BLAST MAX foam for significant bounce. This is a core characteristic. If you find it too much, ensure your lacing is snug to secure your foot, or consider if a shoe with less rebound is more suited to your preference. This model is for neutral runners; if you require stability, this shoe may not provide adequate support.

My feet feel hot or sweaty during runs.

While the shoe features a Breathable Jacquard Mesh upper, foot temperature can vary based on individual physiology, sock choice, and environmental conditions. Ensure you are wearing moisture-wicking running socks, and if running in very hot weather, lighter socks can help. Also, ensure your shoes are properly aired out between runs.

Outsole wear appears faster than expected.

The AHAR™ LO Outsole is designed for durability and grip on roads. Excessive wear can be influenced by running form, surface type (e.g., rough asphalt vs. smooth track), and mileage. Regularly inspect the outsole for signs of wear and consider if your running mechanics or typical running environment are contributing factors. Rotating shoes can also help extend the life of each pair.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional bounce and energy return from FF BLAST MAX cushioning.
  • Lightweight design for an agile and comfortable feel.
  • Breathable upper keeps feet cool and comfortable.
  • Durable outsole provides reliable grip on road surfaces.
  • Sustainable design incorporates significant recycled materials.
  • Enhanced visibility with reflective details for safer night running.

Cons

  • Primarily designed for road running; less suitable for rugged trails.
  • The 8mm drop might feel different for runners accustomed to higher or lower drops.
  • May not offer enough stability for runners with significant overpronation.
  • The 'trampoline effect' might not be preferred by all runners; personal preference varies.

Setup

  1. Sizing: Ensure you select the correct size. Running shoes often fit differently than casual shoes; consider going up half a size if you're between sizes or prefer more toe room.
  2. Lacing: Experiment with different lacing techniques to find the most secure and comfortable fit. The tongue wing construction is designed to minimize movement, but proper lacing is still key.
  3. Break-in Period: While Novablast 5 shoes are often comfortable out of the box, allow a few short runs to fully adapt to the shoe's cushioning and feel.

Compatibility

  • Runner Type: Best suited for neutral stride runners.
  • Terrain: Optimized for road running surfaces.
  • Distance: Ideal for short to medium distances (e.g., daily training, 5k, 10k, half marathon).

Care

  1. Cleaning: Gently brush off loose dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap (like dish soap) and cold water with a soft brush or cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  2. Drying: Always air dry your shoes at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight, which can damage materials. Do not put them in a dryer.
  3. Storage: Store shoes in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving them in hot cars or direct sunlight for extended periods.
  4. Rotation: If you run frequently, consider rotating between two pairs of shoes to extend their lifespan.
