Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Adjust the Straps: Before your first wear, adjust the two buckle straps so they hold your foot securely but comfortably. You should be able to slide one finger underneath the strap. Avoid overtightening, which can cause discomfort.
- Gradual Break-in: Begin by wearing your new Birkenstock Arizona sandals for short periods (1-2 hours) each day. Gradually increase the wear time as the footbed begins to mold to your feet. This prevents discomfort and allows for optimal customization.
Compatibility
- Footwear: Ideal for casual, relaxed attire such as shorts, dresses, skirts, jeans, and swimwear.
- Foot Types: The adjustable straps and anatomical footbed are designed to accommodate a wide range of foot types, including those needing arch support.
Care Instructions
To ensure the longevity of your Birkenstock Arizona sandals, proper care is essential:
- Avoid Excessive Moisture: The cork footbed is susceptible to water damage. Avoid prolonged exposure to rain, puddles, or submersion in water. If they get wet, allow them to air dry slowly away from direct heat.
- Clean Straps: For synthetic uppers (like Birko-Flor), wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For leather uppers, use a leather cleaner or conditioner specifically designed for the material. For 'Tobacco Brown' (often oiled leather), a specialized leather conditioner will help maintain its appearance.
- Clean Footbed: Periodically wipe the footbed with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap, then allow it to air dry completely. For deeper cleaning, specialized Birkenstock footbed cleaners are available.
- Protect Cork: Birkenstock recommends using a cork sealer to protect the exposed cork edges from drying out and cracking. Apply this sealant periodically.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can damage the cork and adhesives. Keep them flat to avoid distorting the footbed.
