Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Adjust Straps: Before your first wear, slide your foot into the sandal. Adjust each buckle strap individually to ensure a snug yet comfortable fit. You should be able to slide a finger easily under the straps without them being too loose or too tight.
- Break-in Period: Wear your new Birkenstocks for short periods (1-2 hours) initially. Gradually increase wear time over a few weeks. The cork-latex footbed will soften and mold to the unique contours of your feet, creating a personalized fit.
Compatibility
- Foot Type: Designed for adults with a standard foot width. The anatomically shaped footbed provides excellent support for most arch types.
- Activity: Best suited for casual wear, light walking, and indoor use. Not recommended for strenuous activities, sports, or environments with heavy moisture.
- Socks: Can be worn with or without socks, depending on personal preference and climate.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will significantly extend the life and appearance of your Birkenstock Arizona sandals.
- Cleaning the Oiled Nubuck Leather: Gently brush off any dry dirt or dust with a soft brush specifically designed for nubuck. For tougher stains, use a specialized nubuck cleaner and follow the product instructions. Avoid harsh detergents or scrubbing vigorously.
- Protecting the Cork Footbed: The cork is naturally porous. To protect it from drying out and cracking, apply a thin layer of Birkenstock Cork Sealer periodically (every few months or as needed). This also helps repel moisture.
- Cleaning the Footbed Lining: The suede footbed lining can be gently cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Allow it to air dry completely away from direct heat.
- Cleaning the EVA Sole: The EVA outsole can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Avoid Water Exposure: Do not submerge your sandals in water. If they get wet, allow them to air dry slowly away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Avoid leaving them in hot cars or direct sun for extended periods, as this can dry out and crack the cork.
- Resole Option: For significant wear on the outsole, Birkenstock offers resoling services to extend the life of your sandals. Check with an authorized repair center.
