Product Information

Full details

The Hoka Clifton 10 is designed for adult female runners seeking a plush, neutral road trainer for daily miles. Its key benefit is providing a smooth, cushioned ride that makes everyday running feel effortless, while a potential caveat is the 8mm heel-to-toe drop, which may require adjustment for some runners accustomed to zero-drop shoes. This latest iteration features thicker CMEVA foams, an updated breathable jacquard mesh upper, and Hoka's signature MetaRocker technology for enhanced transitions and heel stability.

FAQs

What is the main difference in the Clifton 10 compared to previous versions?

The Clifton 10 features a thicker CMEVA midsole for enhanced cushioning and an increased 8mm heel-to-toe drop (up from 5mm in some prior models), offering improved support for heel strikers and potentially reducing strain on the knees and hips.

Is the Hoka Clifton 10 suitable for marathon running?

Yes, the Hoka Clifton 10 is an excellent choice for marathon running due to its plush cushioning and comfortable ride, which helps reduce fatigue over long distances. Its neutral support is suitable for many marathoners.

What type of running is the Clifton 10 best for?

The Clifton 10 is a neutral road trainer, making it ideal for daily mileage, long runs, recovery runs, and general road running. It is not specifically designed for trail running or racing, though some may use it for longer, slower race events.

How do I know if the 8mm heel-to-toe drop is right for me?

An 8mm drop is a moderate drop that can benefit runners who tend to strike the ground with their heel. If you have experienced Achilles pain or calf strain with lower or zero-drop shoes, the 8mm drop might offer a more comfortable transition. It's generally a versatile drop suitable for most runners.

Can I wear these shoes for walking?

Absolutely. The significant cushioning and smooth MetaRocker technology make the Clifton 10 very comfortable for walking, providing excellent shock absorption and support throughout the day.

What does 'CMEVA' stand for?

CMEVA stands for Compression-moulded Ethyl Vinyl Acetate. It's a type of foam used in the midsole that provides cushioning and durability.

Does the shoe have reflective elements?

Yes, the Hoka Clifton 10 features reflective details on the upper, which can enhance visibility in low-light conditions.

Troubleshooting

Tongue slips to the side during runs.

Utilize the double-lace lock system provided on the upper to securely fasten the tongue in place.

Shoes feel too tight or uncomfortable.

Ensure you have the correct size and width. Try adjusting the lacing pattern or using the provided extra eyelets for a customized fit. Consider if the 8mm drop is suitable for your gait.

Reduced cushioning effectiveness over time.

While CMEVA foam is durable, cushioning can decrease with extensive mileage. This is normal wear and tear. Consider replacing the shoes after approximately 300-500 miles (480-800 km) depending on usage and terrain.

Feet feel warm or sweaty.

The jacquard mesh offers breathability, but on very hot days, sweat is still possible. Ensure you are using moisture-wicking socks. Clean the shoes regularly to maintain breathability.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Exceptional cushioning for a comfortable ride on daily runs.
  • Smooth heel-to-toe transitions thanks to MetaRocker technology.
  • Breathable upper keeps feet cool and comfortable.
  • Good stability for a neutral shoe, especially for heel strikers.
  • Lightweight for their cushioning capacity.

Cons

  • The 8mm heel-to-toe drop may not suit runners preferring zero-drop shoes.
  • May offer less ground feel for runners who prefer a more minimalist shoe.
  • The plush cushioning might feel less responsive for speedwork or races.
  • Jacquard mesh, while breathable, might not be as durable as some other materials in the long term.
  • Specific colorways may have limited availability in certain sizes.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup: These are ready to wear out of the box. Ensure you have selected the correct size. For an optimal fit, use the double-lace lock system to secure the tongue and prevent slippage.

Compatibility: The Hoka Clifton 10 is a neutral road running shoe, best suited for road surfaces and light trails. It is designed for adult female runners and is compatible with most standard athletic socks.

Care:

  1. Cleaning: After runs, remove loose dirt with a soft brush. Clean the shoes using a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid machine washing or harsh detergents, as this can damage the materials.
  2. Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not use direct heat sources like radiators or hairdryers, as this can warp the shoe.
  3. Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
