Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Proper preparation is crucial for achieving the 15-year protection. Follow these general steps:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the masonry surface is clean, dry, and free from loose material, dirt, grease, or mould. Loose paint should be scraped or brushed off. Any mould or algae must be treated with a fungicidal wash and rinsed thoroughly.
- Repairs: Fill any cracks or holes with appropriate exterior filler and sand smooth.
- Priming: For bare or porous surfaces, a suitable masonry primer or a diluted first coat of Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint may be required. Always consult the product label for specific priming instructions for your surface type.
- Application: Apply evenly with a brush or roller. Typically, two coats are required for optimal coverage and protection. Allow adequate drying time between coats as specified on the product label.
Compatibility
This paint is designed for use on most exterior masonry surfaces, including:
- Render
- Roughcast
- Pebbledash
- Brickwork (ensure it's not porous or absorbent)
- Concrete
- Building blocks
It is not intended for use on interior surfaces or on surfaces that are constantly submerged in water.
Care
To maintain the paint's performance and appearance:
- Gentle Cleaning: Periodically clean the painted surface with a soft brush and water to remove superficial dirt. Avoid harsh abrasives or high-pressure washers, which can damage the paint film.
- Mould & Algae Check: While the paint resists mould growth within the film, severe external conditions might still lead to surface algae or mould. Address these promptly with a mild fungicidal wash to prevent accumulation.
- Weathershield Promise: To leverage the Weathershield Promise, ensure you register your purchase and application within 6 months as per the terms and conditions provided by Dulux.
