Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & First Use
- Lacing: Before your first walk, ensure the boots are laced securely but not overly tight. Use the classic lacing system to achieve a snug fit around your ankle and instep. A well-laced boot provides optimal support and comfort.
- Break-in Period: Like most walking boots, the Karrimor Hot Rock may require a short break-in period. Start with shorter walks to allow the materials to soften and conform to your foot shape. This helps prevent blisters and discomfort on longer expeditions.
- Socks: Wear appropriate hiking socks (wool or synthetic blends) that wick moisture away from your skin. Avoid cotton socks, as they retain moisture and can lead to blisters.
Compatibility
These boots are designed for a wide range of outdoor activities, including:
- Day hikes on established trails
- Multi-day treks on moderate terrain
- Walking in varied weather conditions, especially wet environments
They pair well with gaiters for additional protection against debris and water infiltration in extremely wet or snowy conditions.
Care & Maintenance
Regular care will extend the lifespan and maintain the performance of your Karrimor Hot Rock Walking Boots:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in muddy conditions, brush off any loose dirt or mud. For stubborn dirt, wipe the boots with a damp cloth or a soft brush. Avoid harsh detergents, which can damage the waterproof membrane and materials.
- Drying: Always allow your boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles and loosen laces to promote airflow. Never place boots near direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, fireplaces) as this can dry out and crack the materials, compromising their integrity and waterproof properties.
- Waterproofing: While the boots feature a waterproof lining, the outer material can benefit from periodic re-treatment with a suitable waterproofing spray or wax, especially if you notice water no longer beads off the surface. Follow the product instructions for application.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing them in plastic bags, which can trap moisture and encourage mildew.
