Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Lacing: Before your first use, ensure you properly lace the boots. Start from the bottom eyelets, pulling firmly but not too tightly. Utilize the classic lacing system to secure your foot, ensuring the padded ankle collar cradles your ankle without restricting movement. A secure lace knot will prevent loosening during your activity.
- Break-In Period: Like most quality walking boots, the Karrimor Hot Rock boots may benefit from a short break-in period. Wear them for shorter walks around your home or local park before embarking on a long hike to allow them to conform to your foot shape.
Compatibility
These boots are compatible with standard hiking socks, which are recommended for optimal comfort and moisture wicking. They pair well with typical hiking attire, such as waterproof trousers, gaiters, and outdoor jackets, making them a versatile addition to your outdoor wardrobe.
Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in muddy conditions, clean your boots. Use a soft brush or damp cloth to remove dirt and debris from the upper and sole. For stubborn mud on the outsole, a stiff brush can be effective. Avoid harsh detergents.
- Drying: Always allow your boots to air dry naturally at room temperature. Remove insoles and loosen laces to promote airflow. Never dry them near direct heat sources like radiators or fires, as this can damage materials and adhesives.
- Waterproofing Maintenance: While the boots feature a waterproof lining, regular cleaning helps maintain its integrity. For older boots or after extensive use, consider applying a suitable waterproofing treatment or spray designed for synthetic hiking boots to refresh the outer water repellency.
