Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Simply lace up your Hedgehog GORE-TEX shoes to a comfortable, secure fit. Ensure laces are snug but not overly tight to allow for natural foot movement and prevent pressure points. Adjust lacing for different foot volumes or terrain.
Compatibility:
These shoes are compatible with various hiking sock types, from thinner liners to thicker wool socks, depending on weather and personal preference. Their versatile design makes them suitable for day hikes, backpacking trips with lighter loads, and general outdoor use on varied terrain. They are a good choice for hikers looking for a nimble yet protective option.
Care:
- Cleaning: After use, remove loose dirt by tapping the shoes together. For more stubborn dirt, use a soft brush and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or hot water, as these can damage the GORE-TEX membrane and leather.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct heat sources like radiators, campfires, or direct strong sunlight, which can cause the leather to crack or shrink and compromise the waterproof membrane. You can stuff them lightly with newspaper to absorb internal moisture and help maintain their shape.
- Waterproofing: Periodically reapply a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment designed for GORE-TEX footwear and leather/synthetic materials to maintain the outer fabric's water repellency. This helps water bead off the surface.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use. Ensure they are clean and dry before storing.
