Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Upon first wearing, ensure the shoes fit snugly but comfortably, allowing for proper foot expansion during activity. Lace them securely, using common hiking lacing techniques to customize fit around the ankle and forefoot, reducing heel slip and pressure points. Wear them with appropriate hiking socks to assess the true fit.
Compatibility
These shoes are designed to pair well with moisture-wicking hiking socks for optimal comfort and to prevent blisters. They are compatible with most hiking gear and are best suited for use on trails ranging from well-maintained paths to rugged, challenging terrain, including wet and muddy conditions.
Care
To ensure the longevity of your GORE-TEX hiking shoes and maintain their waterproof and breathable properties:
- Cleaning: Remove loose dirt with a soft brush and rinse under cold water. For stubborn grime, use a specialized footwear cleaner or a mild soap. Do not use harsh detergents or bleach.
- Drying: Allow shoes to air dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or direct sunlight, as this can damage materials and the GORE-TEX membrane. You can stuff them loosely with newspaper to absorb moisture, changing it regularly.
- Water Repellency: Over time, the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating on the outer fabric may wear off. If water no longer beads up, apply a GORE-TEX compatible DWR spray or wash-in treatment to restore performance.
- Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight when not in use.
