Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Lacing: Ensure laces are snug but not overly tight. Use a lacing technique that distributes pressure evenly across your foot. A common technique is to skip an eyelet if you experience pressure points.
- Socks: Wear appropriate moisture-wicking hiking socks. Cotton socks are not recommended as they retain moisture, which can lead to blisters.
- Break-In: While these shoes offer comfort, it is advisable to wear them for shorter walks before embarking on a long hike to allow them to conform to your feet.
Compatibility
These shoes are designed for adult hikers of all experience levels who require reliable protection and comfort. They are suitable for various hiking activities, from day hikes on moderate trails to multi-day treks on challenging, technical terrain. Their waterproof feature makes them ideal for wet weather conditions or environments where you might encounter water, mud, or dew.
Care
Cleaning:
- Remove Debris: After each use, tap the shoes together to remove loose dirt and debris. Use a soft brush (like an old toothbrush) to gently remove mud from the outsole and upper.
- Wash: For deeper cleaning, use lukewarm water and a mild soap. Gently scrub the shoes with a cloth or soft brush. Avoid harsh detergents or bleach.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with clean water, ensuring no soap residue remains.
- Drying: Air dry your shoes naturally at room temperature. Avoid direct heat sources (like radiators or direct sunlight) as this can damage the materials and adhesives. Stuffing the shoes with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain their shape.
Maintenance:
- Periodically treat the outer surface with a GORE-TEX-approved DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray to maintain water repellency, especially if water starts to soak into the fabric rather than bead up.
- Store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
