FAQs

What surfaces can I use this Dulux paint on?

This Dulux Satinwood paint is specifically designed for use on wood and metal surfaces indoors.

How many coats of paint are recommended?

For a durable and effective finish, 1 coat is recommended with this paint.

How long does it take for the paint to dry?

You should allow the paint to dry for 16 hours after application.

What is the average coverage of this paint?

On average, one litre of this paint covers up to 12 m².

What kind of finish does this paint provide?

This paint provides a smooth, elegant satinwood finish, which has a subtle sheen.

What colour is this specific paint variant?

This particular product is in a Beige colour.

How should I clean my painting tools after use?

Info needed: Please refer to the product packaging for specific instructions on cleaning tools used with this paint. Generally, brushes and rollers should be cleaned immediately after use with the appropriate cleaning agent (e.g., warm soapy water or white spirit).

Troubleshooting

Paint is not drying after 16 hours.

Ensure adequate ventilation in the area where the paint was applied. Check the ambient temperature and humidity; very cold or damp conditions can significantly slow down drying time.

The finish appears uneven or streaky.

Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and smooth before painting. Apply the paint evenly with a good quality brush or roller, avoiding excessive pressure or over-brushing/over-rolling. For future coats, ensure previous coats are fully dry.

Paint does not provide expected coverage.

Ensure the paint was thoroughly stirred before and during use to distribute pigments evenly. Surface porosity can affect coverage; highly absorbent surfaces may require a primer, though one coat is generally sufficient for non-porous or pre-painted surfaces.

Brush marks or roller texture are visible in the dried finish.

Use a high-quality brush or roller specifically designed for satinwood or solvent-based paints. Apply the paint smoothly and avoid overworking it once it's on the surface, allowing it to self-level as it dries.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High Durability: Offers a tough, long-lasting finish resistant to wear.
  • Multi-Surface Use: Suitable for both wood and metal, reducing the need for multiple paint types.
  • Good Coverage: Efficiently covers a significant area per litre.
  • Attractive Finish: Provides a popular and elegant satinwood sheen.
  • Ease of Application: Designed for straightforward use with common painting tools.

Cons

  • Long Drying Time: Requires a substantial 16 hours for each coat to dry, which can extend project timelines.
  • Single Coat Specification: While convenient, some projects or highly contrasting colours might benefit from a second coat, which isn't explicitly recommended.
  • Colour Specificity: This product is a specific beige, limiting immediate colour choice within this variant (though other colours are available in the range).

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup & Application

  1. Preparation is Key: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and smooth. Remove any loose or flaking paint. For previously painted surfaces, a light sand will help with adhesion. For bare wood or metal, a suitable primer may be beneficial, though not explicitly stated as required for this product.
  2. Stir Thoroughly: Before and during use, stir the paint well to ensure a consistent colour and finish.
  3. Application: Apply one even coat using a good quality brush or roller. Avoid over-brushing or over-rolling, as this can affect the finish.
  4. Drying Time: Allow 16 hours for the paint to dry completely before light use or applying a second coat if desired (though one coat is recommended).
  5. Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

Compatibility

  • Surfaces: This paint is specifically formulated for wood and metal surfaces. It is suitable for interior use.
  • Primers: Info needed: While the product does not explicitly require a primer, for certain challenging surfaces (e.g., bare, highly porous wood or new, very smooth metal), a suitable primer might enhance adhesion and overall finish. Refer to specific product packaging for primer recommendations.

Care & Maintenance

  • Tool Cleaning: Info needed: Refer to the product packaging for specific instructions on cleaning brushes and rollers immediately after use. Generally, water-based paints clean with warm soapy water, while oil-based paints require white spirit or a specific brush cleaner.
  • Surface Cleaning: Once dry, painted surfaces can typically be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store paint in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and frost, with the lid tightly sealed.
