FAQs

Is the ASICS Gel-Cumulus 27 a stability shoe?

No, this is a neutral running shoe designed for runners who do not require extra arch support or pronation control.

Can I use these for trail running?

These shoes are designed primarily for road running. While they perform well on light, packed-earth paths, they lack the aggressive lugs needed for technical trails.

How should I clean the jacquard mesh upper?

Use a soft-bristled brush or a damp sponge with gentle soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers that could tear the mesh.

What is the primary difference in the midsole of the 27?

The 27 features an increased volume of FF BLAST PLUS foam compared to previous iterations, resulting in a softer, more reactive ride.

Are these suitable for marathon training?

Yes, their combination of shock absorption and comfort makes them a popular choice for high-mileage training.

Troubleshooting

Feeling of slippage in the heel

Try using the runner's loop lacing technique to secure the ankle collar for a tighter fit.

Reduced cushioning responsiveness

Check the mileage; running shoes typically lose their energy return properties after 300-500 miles of use.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent shock absorption for joint comfort
Lightweight feel with responsive energy return
Breathable and supportive jacquard mesh upper
Versatile design for daily training and long runs
Smooth transitions aided by specialized outsole geometry

Cons

Not intended for runners who need significant stability or pronation control
Mesh material may show wear faster in high-friction areas if not cared for
Limited to neutral gait biomechanics

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the longevity of your Gel-Cumulus 27, it is important to treat them as dedicated road running shoes.

Fit: Ensure you have a thumb's width of space at the front of the toe box to accommodate foot swelling during long runs.
Cleaning: Use a soft brush or a damp cloth with mild soap to wipe away dirt. Never machine wash or tumble dry these shoes as the heat can degrade the cushioning foam and adhesive bond.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to maintain the integrity of the mesh and foam materials.
Rotation: If you run daily, consider alternating pairs to allow the midsole foam to fully decompress, which prolongs the life of the cushioning.
