FAQs

Are the Salomon XT-6 GTX trainers true to size?

Generally, they follow standard sizing, but because of the athletic fit, many users prefer to wear their standard size or half a size up if they plan to use thicker hiking socks.

Can I use these for long-distance running?

Yes, they are designed for technical trail use and offer significant support for long-distance activities on varied terrain.

Are these shoes completely waterproof?

They feature GORE-TEX technology, which is highly waterproof and breathable, though water may still enter if submerged above the ankle collar.

How do I replace the quick-lace system if it snaps?

Salomon offers replacement lace kits compatible with their quick-lace systems, which can be threaded through the existing eyelets.

Are these suitable for everyday urban wear?

Yes, their versatile design and neutral grey colourway make them a popular choice for urban environments where comfort and durability are required.

Troubleshooting

Quick-lace system feels too tight or loose

Adjust the lace tension by pulling the toggle and redistributing the tension across the eyelets before tightening again.

Reduced water repellency over time

Apply a specialized GORE-TEX friendly DWR (Durable Water Repellent) spray to the exterior mesh once the shoes are cleaned and dried.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent traction on various terrains
Secure and customizable fit with quick-lace system
Highly durable construction materials
Weather-resistant GORE-TEX protection

Cons

Firmer sole feel compared to casual trainers
Technical aesthetic may not suit formal settings
Requires a break-in period for optimal comfort

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the best experience with your Salomon XT-6 GTX, start by adjusting the drawstring closure to match your foot's volume; ensure it is snug but not restrictive. For cleaning, remove loose dirt by gently brushing the outsole with a soft-bristled brush. If the upper becomes heavily soiled, wipe it down with a damp cloth and mild soap, then allow the shoes to air dry away from direct heat sources to prevent damage to the technical materials. Avoid machine washing or tumble drying, as this can compromise the GORE-TEX waterproofing and the bond of the adhesives.
