FAQs

Are these shoes completely waterproof?

Yes, the GORE-TEX construction prevents water from entering the interior, though water can still enter through the collar if you step into deep water.

Can I use these for road running?

While you can run on pavement, the trail-specific lugs are designed for soft ground and will wear down faster on asphalt.

How do I maintain the GORE-TEX membrane?

Keep the shoe clean of mud to maintain breathability, and avoid washing in hot water or using harsh detergents.

Is the sizing true to size?

The Gel-Sonoma 8 generally runs true to standard Asics sizing, but consider a half-size up if you prefer more room for thicker hiking socks.

What is the primary benefit of the AMPLIFOAM+ midsole?

It provides a balance of softness and durability, ensuring a comfortable ride even on hard, rocky ground.

Troubleshooting

Moisture buildup inside the shoe

Ensure you are wearing moisture-wicking technical socks rather than cotton, which traps sweat.

Reduced grip on trails

Check the outsole lugs for impacted mud or debris and clean thoroughly with a stiff brush.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent weatherproofing thanks to GORE-TEX
Strong traction on uneven trail terrain
Effective shock absorption for joint comfort
Breathable design despite waterproofing

Cons

Not optimized for long-distance pavement running
Slightly heavier than standard road trainers
Limited to off-road utility

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure your shoes last, follow these maintenance tips:

Fit: The shoe is sized for standard adult feet; ensure you wear appropriate technical socks for the best fit.
Cleaning: Remove loose dirt with a soft brush after every trail outing. Hand wash using mild soap and cold water if needed; avoid machine washing.
Drying: Air dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources like radiators, as high heat can damage the GORE-TEX membrane.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the integrity of the cushioning and waterproof upper.
