Setup, Compatibility & Care
Preparation is crucial for limewash.
- Surface Preparation: Ensure walls are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and flaking paint. Any existing glossy paint should be thoroughly abraded. New plaster or previously unpainted surfaces must be sealed with Farrow & Ball Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat.
- Priming: For best results and consistent color, prime the surface with Farrow & Ball Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat. For a more traditional limewash effect, a specific limewash primer might be considered.
- Application: Apply Ammonite Limewash with a large, soft brush in a cross-hatching motion. Work in manageable sections, ensuring an even coat. Limewash is breathable and has a distinct application feel; avoid over-brushing. Typically, two coats are recommended for depth of color and finish. Allow adequate drying time between coats.
- Compatibility: This limewash is intended for interior walls and ceilings. It is not suitable for high-moisture areas like bathrooms or kitchens without appropriate ventilation and surface preparation.
- Care: Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or excessive rubbing, as this can damage the delicate limewash finish.
