Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
Upon receiving your Karrimor Skiddaw Walking Boots, it's recommended to:
- Try them on: Ensure you have enough room for your toes and that your heel doesn't slip excessively. Wear the type of socks you'd typically use for hiking.
- Lace them up: Utilize the hook eyelets to secure a firm but comfortable fit. Start from the bottom eyelets and work your way up, ensuring even tension. A properly laced boot provides optimal ankle support and comfort.
- Break-in period: While comfortable from the start, a short break-in period with lighter walks is advised before attempting longer hikes to allow the boots to mold to your feet.
Compatibility
These boots are suitable for:
- Outdoor Activities: Ideal for general hiking, trail walking, and light backpacking.
- Terrain: Performs well on varied terrains including paved paths, dirt trails, gravel, and moderate rocky surfaces due to the DynaGrip outsole.
- Weather: Designed for wet and damp conditions thanks to the waterproof and breathable Weathertite upper. They are suitable for three-season use (spring, summer, autumn) but may require additional insulation for colder winter conditions.
Product Care
Proper care will extend the life and performance of your Karrimor Skiddaw Walking Boots:
- Cleaning: After use, especially if muddy, wipe clean with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a soft brush.
- Drying: Allow the boots to air dry naturally in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources (e.g., radiators, fireplaces). Stuffing them with newspaper can help absorb moisture and maintain shape.
- Avoid Machine Washing: DO NOT machine wash your boots. This can damage the materials, compromise the waterproofing of the Weathertite membrane, and reduce the overall lifespan of the boots.
- Storage: Store boots in a cool, dry place when not in use. Ensure they are completely dry before storing.
