No, you must never machine wash or dry clean a waxed cotton jacket as it will permanently damage the protective finish.
Hang the jacket in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space. Avoid storing it in plastic bags or damp areas.
Simply hang it up to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat sources like radiators.
While the wax provides good resistance to light rain and wind, it is not designed to be a fully waterproof technical raincoat for extreme downpours.
This depends on how often you wear it; generally, once a year is sufficient for moderate use to keep it water-resistant.
The wax coating wears off over time; purchase Barbour wax dressing and follow the manufacturer instructions to re-proof the fabric.
Use a sponge or soft cloth dampened with cool, clean water to gently wipe the exterior. Avoid using soaps or detergents.
Because of the delicate wax coating that provides the jacket's weather resistance, this garment requires specific maintenance. Do not attempt to wash the jacket in a washing machine or dry clean it, as this will destroy the finish. If the jacket becomes soiled, gently wipe it down with a damp cloth using cold water. Over time, as the water-repellent properties begin to fade, you will need to apply fresh Barbour wax dressing to restore its protective qualities. Always store the jacket in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area to prevent mildew from forming on the cotton material.
