No, you should never machine wash or dry clean a waxed cotton jacket as it will permanently damage the protective wax finish.
The frequency depends on usage; however, it is generally recommended to re-wax once a year if worn frequently.
It is water-resistant, designed to protect against light rain and wind, but it is not fully waterproof in heavy rain conditions.
The collar can accumulate dust or oils over time. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean the corduroy fabric periodically.
Because the waxed cotton is windproof, layering with a wool or fleece sweater is highly effective for cooler temperatures.
It is best suited for transitional seasons. On very hot days, the waxed finish may feel heavy and retain body heat.
Apply a fresh layer of Barbour wax dressing to restore the water-repellent finish and natural sheen.
Apply a small amount of beeswax or a specialized zipper lubricant to the teeth and operate the zip several times.
Gently sponge the affected area with cold water. Avoid soaps or detergents as they can ruin the waxed treatment.
To ensure your jacket remains in top condition, keep it away from heat sources like radiators, which can damage the wax coating. If the jacket becomes dirty, wipe it down with a cold, damp cloth; never machine wash or dry clean the item, as this will strip away the wax. To maintain the water-repellent properties, you should re-wax the jacket periodically using official Barbour wax products, particularly if you notice areas where water no longer beads on the surface. For storage, hang the jacket in a cool, well-ventilated area to prevent mildew buildup.
