Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup (The Break-In Period)
Upon receiving your new Birkenstock Arizona sandals, it's normal for them to feel a bit stiff. The cork-latex footbed needs time to adapt to your unique foot shape. Follow these steps for a comfortable break-in:
- Wear for Short Durations: Start by wearing your sandals for only 1-2 hours at a time during the first few days.
- Gradual Increase: Gradually increase the wearing time each day. This allows the cork to soften and mold to your foot's contours and arches.
- Listen to Your Feet: If you experience any discomfort, take them off and try again later. The process should be comfortable, not painful.
Compatibility
Your Birkenstock Arizona sandals are designed for casual wear. Their classic brown leather and timeless design make them highly versatile:
- Outfits: Pair them with jeans, shorts, skirts, dresses, and other relaxed attire.
- Environments: Ideal for everyday use, walking, leisurely activities, and indoor comfort. Not recommended for strenuous sports or formal occasions.
Care & Maintenance
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your sandals:
- Cleaning the Leather Straps: Use a damp cloth to gently wipe away dirt. For tougher spots, a mild leather cleaner can be applied sparingly. Allow to air dry completely, away from direct heat.
- Footbed Care: The cork-latex footbed can be wiped with a damp cloth. For refreshing and sanitizing, a specialized Birkenstock Cleaner & Refresher spray is recommended. Allow the footbed to air dry thoroughly after each wear, especially if your feet sweat.
- Protecting the Cork: Birkenstock recommends applying a thin layer of cork sealer periodically to protect the cork from drying out and cracking. This is especially important for areas where the cork is exposed.
- Avoid Water Immersion: The cork footbed and leather upper are not waterproof. Avoid prolonged exposure to water, as it can damage the cork, adhesives, and leather. If they do get wet, let them air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight.
- Storage: Store your sandals in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
