This guide is for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts looking to protect and beautify their wooden decks. The Cuprinol Decking Wood Stain in Black Ash offers a durable, matte finish that provides excellent color and a robust protective coating, resisting cracks and peeling. A key benefit is its ultra stain resistance and water-repellency, with a quick shower-proof time of less than an hour. However, users should note that it is specifically formulated for patio wood and requires proper surface preparation for optimal results.

While the stain is shower-proof in under an hour and touch-dry relatively quickly, full curing can take several days. Avoid heavy foot traffic and placing furniture on the deck for at least 48-72 hours.
This product is specifically designed for decking. While it offers protection, results on furniture may vary. For garden furniture, it's recommended to use products specifically formulated for that purpose.
Typically, one to two coats are recommended. The number of coats depends on the desired color depth and the condition and absorbency of the wood. Always allow the first coat to dry before applying a second.
The deck must be clean, dry, and free from any contaminants. Use a stiff brush and a dedicated deck cleaner to remove dirt, algae, and grime. Rinse thoroughly and allow the wood to dry completely, which may take 24-48 hours.
The product description focuses on stain resistance, water repellency, and durability. While UV protection is a common feature in exterior wood treatments, it's not explicitly detailed as a primary benefit in the provided information.
Store leftover stain in its original, tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the lid is securely fastened to prevent drying out.
Ensure the product was thoroughly stirred before and during application. Apply thin, even coats and avoid over-application. Check if the wood was uniformly prepared and dry.
Check ambient temperature and humidity; avoid application in very cold or damp conditions. Ensure the wood was completely dry before application and that adequate ventilation is present.
Ensure adequate coats were applied and that the surface was properly prepared. Reapplication may be necessary if the protective layer has worn down significantly.
This usually indicates inadequate surface preparation or application over a compromised surface (e.g., damp wood, loose fibers). Remove the failing coating, prepare the surface thoroughly, and reapply.
