Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
- Adjust the Strap: Before wearing, adjust the metal buckle strap over the instep. It should be snug enough to hold the clog securely on your foot, but loose enough to allow for comfortable movement. You should be able to slide one finger underneath the strap.
- Break-in Period: Birkenstocks have a distinct footbed that molds to your foot. Wear them for short periods initially (e.g., 20-30 minutes a day) and gradually increase wear time over a few weeks. This allows the footbed to soften and conform to your individual foot shape, ensuring maximum comfort.
Compatibility
These clogs are designed for casual wear. They pair well with:
- Jeans, chinos, or corduroys
- Leggings or cozy loungewear
- Socks (for extra warmth) or barefoot (to fully enjoy the shearling)
Avoid wearing them in formal settings or during activities that require highly specialized footwear, such as strenuous sports or prolonged exposure to harsh weather.
Care
Proper care will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your Birkenstock Boston VL/Shearling Mink clogs:
- Shearling Lining:
- Gently brush the shearling with a soft brush (like a suede brush) to restore its fluffiness and remove any dirt.
- For minor spots, *gently* dab with a damp cloth and a very mild soap solution. Do not saturate the shearling. Allow to air dry completely away from direct heat.
- Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing, as this can damage the shearling.
- Velour Leather Upper:
- Use a suede brush or a specialized velour/nubuck cleaner to remove dirt and scuffs.
- Apply a waterproofing spray specifically designed for suede/nubuck leathers *before* first wear and reapply periodically to protect against moisture and stains.
- Avoid rubbing aggressively, which can damage the nap of the leather.
- Cork Footbed:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can dry out and crack the cork.
- If the cork seal appears worn, consider applying a cork sealer product to protect it.
- General Storage: Store your clogs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Stuffing them lightly with tissue paper can help maintain their shape.
