FAQs

Can I use Mizzle on kitchen cabinets?

While Dead Flat is durable, Farrow & Ball typically recommends their Modern Eggshell finish for high-wear kitchen cabinetry for maximum longevity.

How does Mizzle compare to Pigeon or Blue Gray?

Mizzle is lighter and contains less blue pigment than both Pigeon and Blue Gray, making it a more subtle, airy choice.

Does the matte finish look 'chalky'?

No, the Dead Flat finish is known for being 'flat' in terms of light reflection but remains rich and smooth in texture.

Is this paint water-based?

Yes, it is a water-based alkyd resin paint, allowing for easier cleanup than traditional oil-based paints.

How many coats should I apply?

We recommend two full coats to achieve the true depth of the Mizzle color and the desired scuff-resistant performance.

Troubleshooting

Paint is not adhering to the surface

Ensure the surface was primed with the recommended Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat, especially over bare wood or metal.

Visible roller marks or streaking

Avoid over-working the paint. Use a high-quality roller and maintain a 'wet edge' to ensure even distribution during application.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Extremely flat, high-end matte aesthetic
Highly durable and scuff-resistant finish
Suitable for multiple substrates including metal and wood
Sophisticated, complex color that changes with light
Easy to clean, maintaining a fresh look over time

Cons

Requires careful surface preparation
Alkyd resin-based formulas can be less forgiving than standard emulsions
5L size may be excessive for smaller accent projects

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To achieve the best results, ensure your surfaces are clean, dry, and free from loose paint or dust.

Preparation: For new or bare surfaces, apply the appropriate Farrow & Ball Primer & Undercoat first. For previously painted surfaces, sand lightly to provide a 'key' for the paint.
Application: Apply using a high-quality synthetic brush or a medium-nap roller for walls. Due to the alkyd formula, ensure the room is well-ventilated during application and drying.
Curing: While the paint will be touch-dry relatively quickly, it takes several days to reach full hardness. Avoid heavy scrubbing for at least 14 days after application.
Maintenance: Use a soft cloth and a mild soap solution to wipe down marks. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh household cleaners as these can burnish the matte finish.
