Setup, Compatibility & Care Instructions
Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is key to achieving the product's advertised 15-year lifespan. While sanding is often not required, the surface must be clean, dry, and sound.
- Clean the Surface: Remove all loose paint, dirt, grease, and grime using a suitable cleaner. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely.
- Remove Mould/Mildew: If mould or mildew is present, treat it with a fungicidal wash or mould remover. Scrub thoroughly and rinse well. Ensure the surface is completely dry before painting.
- Repair Imperfections: Fill any cracks, holes, or defects with an appropriate exterior filler. Sand smooth if necessary.
- Existing Coatings: Zinsser Allcoat can be applied over most existing coatings, including glossy paints, bitumen, and creosote, without sanding. However, ensure the previous coating is firmly adhered and not peeling or flaking.
Application
- Stir Well: Thoroughly stir the paint before and during use to ensure colour consistency.
- Application Tools: Apply with a good quality synthetic brush or roller. Airless spray is also suitable.
- Coatings: Typically, two coats are recommended for optimal durability and colour depth. Apply thinly and evenly.
- Drying/Recoat Times: Info needed: Refer to the product label for specific drying and recoat times. Generally, water-based paints dry to touch within a few hours and can be recoated after 4-6 hours, but full cure can take several days.
- Temperature: Apply in temperatures between 10°C and 32°C, avoiding direct sunlight or extremely humid conditions.
Compatibility
- Compatible with a vast array of exterior substrates: wood, metal (ferrous and non-ferrous), uPVC, composite, brick, stone, and rendered surfaces.
- Can be applied directly over most sound, previously painted or treated surfaces.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean painted surfaces gently with mild soap and water as needed to remove dirt and maintain appearance. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect painted surfaces for any signs of wear, damage, or mould regrowth, especially after harsh weather. Address any issues promptly to prolong the life of the coating.
- Storage: Store unused paint in a cool, dry place, protected from frost and direct sunlight. Ensure the lid is tightly sealed.
