Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure the best results and longevity of your D-C-Fix Self-Adhesive Film, follow these guidelines carefully.
Setup Instructions
- Prepare the Surface: Ensure the surface you intend to cover is completely clean, dry, smooth, and free of any dust, grease, or debris. Any imperfections on the surface may show through the film.
- Measure and Cut: Measure the dimensions of your surface accurately. Cut the film to size, allowing an overlap of approximately 1-2 cm on all sides. This overlap will be trimmed later for a neat finish.
- Initial Application: Gently peel back about 5-10 cm of the backing paper from one end. Align the exposed adhesive edge of the film with the edge of your surface.
- Smooth and Adhere: Slowly and steadily peel away more of the backing paper, while simultaneously smoothing the film onto the surface. Use a soft cloth, a plastic squeegee, or even a credit card to press out any air bubbles, working from the center outwards.
- Remove Air Bubbles: If bubbles appear, you can gently lift the film back to that point and re-smooth. For stubborn small bubbles, carefully prick them with a fine pin and press the air out.
- Trim Excess: Once the entire film is applied and smooth, use a sharp craft knife or utility blade to carefully trim the excess film along the edges for a clean, professional look.
Compatibility
- Ideal Surfaces: This film performs best on smooth, non-porous surfaces such as laminate, painted wood (with a smooth finish), metal, glass, and plastic.
- Not Recommended For: Avoid applying to rough, uneven, porous, or heavily textured surfaces, as the adhesive may not bond effectively, and imperfections will likely show through. Also, avoid surfaces with peeling paint or loose finishes.
Care & Maintenance
- Cleaning: To clean the D-C-Fix film, simply wipe it down with a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive household cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive scouring pads.
- Avoid Scouring: Do not scrub the surface vigorously, as this may damage the finish.
- Heat Protection: While durable, the film is not designed for direct high heat. Always use coasters or protective mats for hot dishes or appliances to prevent damage.
