Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
- Unpack: Remove sandals from packaging.
- Adjust Straps: Unbuckle both straps and place your foot into the footbed. Ensure your heel sits securely in the heel cup and your toes are within the toe bar without touching the front rim.
- Buckle: Fasten the straps so they are snug but not tight, allowing your foot to move naturally without excessive sliding. You should be able to slide one finger underneath the strap.
- Break-In: Wear the sandals for short periods initially (e.g., 30 minutes to 1 hour a day) to allow the footbed to soften and mold to your feet. Gradually increase wear time.
Compatibility
These sandals are highly versatile and complement a wide range of casual attire, from shorts and t-shirts to linen trousers and summer dresses. They are suitable for various environments, including home, casual outings, light travel, and beach walks (avoiding water immersion).
Care
- Leather Upper: Clean the leather straps with a damp cloth and a mild leather cleaner if necessary. Condition periodically with a leather conditioner to keep the material supple and prevent cracking.
- Footbed: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat, which can dry out and crack the cork. If the cork sealant appears worn, apply a new thin layer of cork sealer (available from Birkenstock or shoe repair shops) to protect it.
- Overall: Keep sandals away from water. If they get wet, air dry slowly away from direct heat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Store in a cool, dry place.
