Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
Before you begin, ensure you have read the entire instruction leaflet included in the Schwarzkopf LIVE Caramel Copper kit. Proper setup is crucial for a successful and safe coloring experience.
- Gather Supplies: You will need gloves (usually included), an old towel, a timer, petroleum jelly or a barrier cream, and a non-metallic bowl and brush if you're not using the applicator bottle.
- Perform a Skin Allergy Patch Test: 48 hours prior to application, apply a small amount of the mixed dye product to a clean area of skin, such as behind your ear or on the inner elbow. Leave it undisturbed for 48 hours. If any irritation, redness, swelling, or itching occurs, do NOT use the product.
- Perform a Strand Test: Apply the mixed dye to a small, hidden section of hair (e.g., underneath your hair near the nape of your neck). Monitor the color development over the recommended time to ensure you achieve your desired shade. This also helps you determine the exact processing time for your hair.
- Prepare Your Hair: Ensure your hair is dry and unwashed for at least 24-48 hours before coloring, as natural oils can help protect your scalp. Do not use any styling products.
Compatibility
- Age Group: This product is designed for adult use.
- Hair Types: Generally compatible with most natural hair types. However, results can vary significantly on previously colored, bleached, permed, or chemically straightened hair. It's highly recommended to perform a strand test on these hair types.
- Not Recommended For: Individuals with a known allergy to hair dyes, or those who have experienced a reaction to a black henna tattoo in the past. Do not use on eyelashes or eyebrows.
Care
Proper care after coloring will help maintain the vibrancy and longevity of your caramel copper shade.
- Use Color-Safe Products: Opt for shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for color-treated hair. These products are formulated to be gentle and help lock in color.
- Limit Washing: Wash your hair less frequently. When you do wash, use lukewarm or cool water, as hot water can strip color faster.
- Protect from Heat: Minimize the use of heat styling tools (flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers). If you must use them, apply a heat protectant spray first and use the lowest effective temperature setting.
- Sun Protection: UV rays can cause hair color to fade. Consider using hair products with UV filters or wearing a hat when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
- Deep Conditioning: Incorporate a deep conditioning treatment or hair mask into your routine once a week to keep hair hydrated and healthy, which helps color retention.
